Azeezat is a multi-talented, multi-award winning singer, songwriter, and publisher. The Queen of Love, (as she’s popularly called) is known to have paved way for contemporary female artistes in Nigeria, just like Tuface Idibia did for the male folks. She shot into limelight in 1999 with her stunning performance at the talent hunt segment of the first-ever Girls Nite Out, organized by Smooth Promotions (organizers of the Hip Hop World Awards in Nigeria). This was her launch-pad into the Nigerian Music Industry. Her first single Lonely World was released in 2000, then came the monster hit Hold On in 2001.
However, the singer Azeezat suddenly went silent on us and we all wondered for so long what had happened to the energetic and soul singer. Catching up with Azeezat in an exclusive interview with BroadwayAfrica TV, Azeezat shared that music remains her first love and she never stopped doing music. She said;
“Music is the love of my life, there was a time I wasn’t singing as much but now I sing more and I am thinking of going back to the studio to record but it just has to be right, I don’t want to be seen like I am doing it because I want to represent, I want it to come from the depth of my soul because I believe there are people out there who wants to an Azeezat message so that is what I am preparing for.”
When asked on why she took such a long break from music seeing that so much has happened and is still happening in the music scene, the eccentric singer shared that her break wasn’t intentional and she however argued that the break wasn’t a long one.
In her words, she said; “It wasn’t intentional and I don’t think it was a long break because I still record, I still release maybe because those songs were not as big as my past songs so some people see it as a long break. I don’t think it was a long break.”
On if she would be returning soon Azeezat said; ” Yes, you should expect me back reaching out to people who want to listen to me”
