Various women are proving the world wrong by making chart-breaking movies that can stand side by side with that of their male counterparts and sometimes beat them hands down.
Nollywood has experienced great transformation and the female film makers are definitely part of that transformation.
This list is made up of women who have dared to be different and achieved great feats with their movies in 2016. Introducing the top 5 Nollywood female filmmakers of 2016 in no particular order.
The multi award winning actress, Omoni is below 40 yet she has made it big. Omoni is not just an actress but a director, scriptwriter and producer. She has featured in many movies and has made a couple of hit movies for herself. Omoni has been married for 16years and has three lovely sons.
The hit movies that she has produced include: The First Lady, Being Miss Elliot, Render to Ceaser, Wives on Strike and has featured in several movies such as The Figurine, Fifty and so many others.
Emem Isong is a script writer, and a top producer and director. She has carved a niche for herself by producing some blockbuster movies. Within 2014-2016, she has produced several Ayamma, Knocking on Heaven’s Gate, Kiss and Tell, Code of Silence. Other movies include Forgetting June, Bursting Out.
The talented Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele best called “Jenifa” for her role in Jenifa diaries is one producer and director that is giving top producers a run for their money. Funke features in both Nollywood Yoruba and English movies. She has produced a couple of hit movies such as Jenifa 1 & 2, Return of Jenifa, Apaadi, and she is the producer of the highly demanding comical series, ‘Jenifa Diaries’.
Blessing Egbe is a Nollywood actress, movie director and producer. The say it as it is filmmaker Blessing Effiom Egbe has produced some spectacular movies and series such as Two Bride and A Baby, Lekki wives , One Room.
The Multi-talented Kemi Adetiba is a Nigerian filmmaker, music video and television director. Kemi took the industry by storm when she dropped her first ever directed movie, ‘The Wedding Party”. This movie got a recognition from Toronto International Film Festival where she got great reviews and going head to head with other top great movies from Nigeria.
